Foot and Shadows Walking Holiday Tours invites you in our spectacular and most fascinating adventure on Chulu East Climb with Thorang-la high pass, a unique memorable and scenic adventure on top of Chulu East highest trekking peak around Nepal Himalaya at 6,584 m / 21,727 ft high. This adventure leads around popular Annapurna Circuit route a moderate and adventurous with impressive Buddhist cultures and panorama of high Himalaya peaks.

From Pisang located in Manang valley and then heading higher for classic climb, leaving the main trekking trail for few days in complete isolation and wilderness, the climb is taken after acclimatization and preparations, the climb is straight forward, requires skill on ice axe, crampons and use of fix ropes.

The climb of Chulu East is not technically challenging but requires being physically and mentally fit to accomplish this trip, the climbing grade rated PD+( Peu Difficile / some technical difficult and walking on glaciers) the grade recommended by Swiss / French Alpine System.

Chulu East Climb a combination of scenic walks with tremendous cultural variation, starting from lower warm Hindu area to high Buddhist country of Tibetan origin.

This wonderful trek leads away from Manang valley around isolated country with range of Chulu peaks, Chulu East-West-Mid and Far East Chulu through remote Julu village  with tremendous views of mountains of Annapurna II-III-IV, Gangapurna, Tilicho , Pisang and Chulu peaks, after Manang heading towards remote areas at Tilicho Lake with amazing scenery.

On reaching at the base of Chulu East hidden between massive range of other Chulu peaks and Damodar Himal, after rest and preparation climb to the summit of Chulu East the highest trekking peak of Nepal Himalaya, throughout the climb our guide will lend enough support to the summit and safely back to base camp.

After feeling high and on top of the world, then heading to Manang village on the popular trail of Annapurna circuit trail and towards high Thorang-la pass unto to Jomsom headquarter town of Mustang area.

At Jomsom after walking though holy Muktinath area, completing this grand Chulu East Peal climb a scenic short flight to popular touristic Pokhara city, where Annapurna Mountains reflects on its pristine Phewa / Begnas Lakes.

A drive leads back to Kathmandu after an enjoyable and remarkable adventure Chulu East Climb with grand service of Foot and Shadows Walking Holiday Tours.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

Day 15: Trek to Thorong High Camp 4,600 m – 04 hrs.

Day 16: Cross Thorong-La 5,416 m and to Muktinath 3,800 m – 07 hrs.

Day 17: Trek to Jomsom 2, 715 m – 04 hours.
Day 18:  Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara 860 m – 25 mins flight.
Day 19: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu afternoon free at leisure.
Day 20: International departure homeward bound.

Trip in detail:

Day 01:  Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
On reaching at Kathmandu international airport via respective airlines and countries, received by Foot and Shadow Walking Holiday staff and transfer to hotel in the heart of Kathmandu city, after getting refreshed our guide will brief with information on hotel, culture, do’s and don’ts and Chulu East Peak Climb with welcome dinner.

Day 02:   Sightseeing tour and trek preparation.
After breakfast our city guide will take you on sightseeing tour at places of interest as Kathmandu valley full of world heritage sites with temples, monasteries, stupa’s and old king’s palace after an enjoyable interesting tour back to hotel, preparation for Chulu East Peak Climb.

Day 03:   Drive to Jagat 1,290 m via Beshishar 800 m – 08 hrs.

Morning with interesting and scenic long drive towards Nepal mid west, journey leads to Beshishar town then on the dirt road to Khudi, Bhulbhule and Ngadi following the Marsyangdi River upstream, drive continues through rice terraces fields and villages to Syange, from here with a slow climb leaving the Marsyangdi River behind to reach first overnight stop at Jagat village, a farm village with many lodges for trekkers.

Day 04:    Trek to Dharapani 1,920 m – 05 hours.

From Jagat village morning walk leads on a gradual winding path to Chamje, and back at Marsyangdi River to crossing on the eastern bank and into forested area, with superb views of Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges, as the walk advances on the wide path to a nice village of Tal Besi, Here for lunch break, and then another 2-3 hours walk leads at Dharapani village for overnight stop, Dharapani a nice village situated on the junction of Annapurna circuit and Manaslu trekking trail.

Day 05:      Trek to Chame 2,670 m – 05 hours.

After Dharapani walk along the wide winding trail into serene rhododendron and pine forest passing villages of Bagachap and Danque, then to  Timang village from here onwards into more Buddhist culture village with grand view of Mt. Manaslu 8,163m / 26,781ft, from Timang village few hours trek leads to Koto and then to Chame town for overnight stop, Chame a large and major town of Manang area and as well a head quarter of Manang district.

Day 06:    Trek to Pisang 3, 230 m – 05 hrs.

From here onwards the air gets cooler and fresh as the walk leads close to mountains, morning walk leads through enchanting alpine forests of rhododendron and pine trees, following the Marshyangdi River upstream with short ups and down hills to Bhratang village. From Bhratang village walk follows uphill through alpine woodland to Dhukure Pokhari a small place with few teahouses and lodge overlooking Chulu’s and Pisang peak, with a lunch break here, walk descends to lower Pisang village for overnight stop.

Day 07:    Trek to Julu 3,900 m – 06 hrs.

From Pisang village, leaving main Annapurna circuit route behind with climb above Marshyangdi River, walk continues on higher trail above Nagawa village, leading North West into more arid and dry terrain to reach at Jhulu small village for first camping of this trip.

Day 08:       At Julu for acclimatization.

A necessary rest day for acclimatization and preparation for adventurous climb to Chulu East peak, here one can take a hike around and explore Julu traditional village with grand scenery of mountains with view of Chulu’s peaks.

Day 09:         Trek to Chulu Base Camp at 5,300m.

After rest day at Julu, morning walk leads to remote wilderness area with great views of Chulu’s and Annapurna range of mountains, climb above picturesque Manang valley heading towards Chulu East and Far East Peaks area, after a hard high altitude walk reaching a rocky moraines on ridges to camp for overnight, this perfect spot will be the base camp and starting point to Chulu East Peak climb.

Day 10:       Rest day at Base Camp.
Another important acclimatization day, check the climbing gear for the climb of Chulu East Peak.

Day 11:       Climb of Chulu East Peak 6,584 m and descend to Base Camp- 7 hrs.
The main highlight of this great adventure starting early before dawn with a climb over snow slopes, quite steep with technical section in few sections to reach the summit of Chulu East; our guide will set the route and fix ropes where necessary to the summit top.
After final ascend to the top of the summit in high spirit and feeling great, marvel the surrounding fantastic views and descend back to base camp.

Day 12:      Reserve day in case of bad weather condition

An extra day as contingency or reserve day in case of unfavorable weather conditions, if all goes well this spare can be used on the way before Thorang-la or on route Jomsom.

Day 13:       Trek to Manang 3,520 m – 05 hrs.

After successful climb of Chulu East Peak, morning walk leads to long descend at Julu village, continue walk along Marshyangdi River through Humde village with its small airstrip, from here on gradual path to Braga village, and then an hour walk leads to Manang a large thriving village, houses are of Tibetan traditional style like in Pisang.

Day 14:       Trek to Yak Kharka 4,110 m – 04 hours.

After a good time at Manang, morning adventure leads towards Ghunsang village on the uphill path to Yak Kharka, an interesting high altitude walk with super scenery of the snow capped mountains, then crossing the river to reach Yak Kharka a small settlement, offering tremendous views of Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Chulu Peaks.

Day 15:       Trek to Thorong High Camp 4,600 m – 04 hrs.

As walk progress getting closer to base of Thorang-la then crossing river, leading up on narrow path to cross a steep rocky slope and finally reaching at Thorung Phedi, an hour steep climb to overnight stop at Thorang High Camp, staying here to make it easier for next day climb over Thorang pass.
Day 16:      Cross Thorong-La 5,416 m and to Muktinath 3,800 m – 07 hrs.

After early breakfast climb to Thorang-la with steep ascend all the way to Thorung La Pass top at 5,416 m / 17,700 ft. The top offers mind fantastic scenery of landscapes and mountains, from here a long descend to Muktinath at 3,800 m. On reaching Muktinath for overnight stop, this is a holy place for both Hindus and Buddhists the word Muktinath literally means ‘the place for Nirvana or Liberation’.

Day 17:         Trek to Jomsom 2, 715 m – 04 hours.

After Muktinath, rest of the journey is easier with moderate walks all the way to Jomsom as the walk drops to 1,200m downhill to Kaligandaki river valley, this pleasant trail leading at vast Kaligandaki river valley. From here onwards gets windy in the afternoon time, a few hours walk leads to Jomsom, headquarter town of Mustang region with an airstrip located above Kaligandaki River. Here at Jomsom with last night in the mountain village, celebrate with local apple products like cider, brandy and juice, this area from Kagbeni onwards to Marpha & Larjung famous for delicious apples.

Day 18:        Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara 860 m – 20 mins flight.
Early breakfast and transfer to Jomsom airport for sweeping short flight of 25 minutes to Pokhara, during airborne spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiris and Annapurna range of mountains with rolling hills dotted with farm villages,

On reaching Pokhara airport transfer to respective hotels by the serene lake Phewa, afternoon free for individual activities or just relax and enjoy the views of Annapurna Himalaya.

Day 19:     Drive to Kathmandu.
Morning a drive to Kathmandu after a wonderful experience of Chulu East Climb, on reaching Kathmandu transfer to respective hotels with afternoon free at leisure for individual activities and shopping.

Day 20:        Depart Kathmandu for international flight homeward bound.
Last day in amazing Nepal, after a wonderful Chulu East Climb with great services of Foot and Shadow Walking Holiday Tours, as per your international flight departure and reporting time, our staff transfers you to airport for your onward flight homeward bound or to next respective countries.

Aditional Information

Typical trekking day

While we are in trekking our day starts with warm wake up tea/coffee. After refreshing ourselves, we pack our luggage and proceed for the breakfast. As day sets off, considering the altitude and acclimatization, we walk slowly towards our next destination. The group will be guided and accompanied by our trained government licensed guide. Throughout the day, we will take frequent rest breaks to take photographs, treasure the landscape, confront the culture and admire the fascinating mountains and sceneries. A 1 to 2 hour relaxing lunch break is usually taken except when crossing the passes. After the lunch break, we will at least spend 2 to 3 hours more on the trail before reaching the next lodge. Before the dinner, we might enjoy a short walk through the local village, photographing etc. After the dinner, you will be briefed for the next day program.

Accommodation and Meal Accommodation in Kathmandu:  you will stay at a high standard or equivalent standard hotel, including breakfast, on a sharing basis. During the arrival and departure periods in Kathmandu, you can go for dinners to the best restaurants of the city with the different authentic cuisine.

Accommodation during Trekking : you will stay in the stander mountain lodges as per defined itinerary destination. Please be aware that single rooms are not available. Though there are blankets available at the lodges, we recommend bringing your own sleeping bag. In most of the lodges, you can enjoy continental, Italian, Tibetan and local cuisines except while crossing the passes. Our day will start with warm wake up tea or coffee and followed by breakfast, lunch and dinner. Upon arrival in the lodges at the end of the day, some tea. The entire beverages during trekking likewise wine, juices, beer, Coca, mineral water etc is paid by the client her/himself.

Accommodation During Peak Climbing:  You will stay in tented camp. All your food, (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) and other hot drinks will be prepared by our cook.

Helicopter Rescue

While traveling in the Himalaya you may suffer for the various health problems, injuries and even the altitude sickness. Hence you have to prepare before upcoming destination is this mountain land. Make sure that the policy of the insurance company should cover the process of giving you the service of Helicopter rescue from the mountains in case of Altitude Sickness or other accidents during your trip.

If weather condition  flight delay in Jomsom for our  trip we need to use  road transport from Jomsom to Pokhara, transportation cost will manage from cancellation of flight ticket.
